Benjamin graduated with distinction from the University of Alberta’s Faculty of Law in 2025. Before enrolling in law school, Benjamin graduated with distinction from the University of Alberta’s Campus Saint Jean Bachelor of Education program in 2022, where he took courses and completed practical training almost exclusively in French.
During law school, Benjamin was deeply involved in Student Legal Services where he discovered his passion for defending those charged with criminal and quasi-criminal offences. Benjamin was involved in Student Legal Services throughout all three years of law school. As a volunteer and dayleader, Benjamin worked on behalf of dozens of individuals by negotiating with crown prosecutors, filing pre-trial applications, and arguing sentencing matters. Benjamin also completed a summer term with the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service, where he gained important insight into the inner workings of the Crown Prosecutor’s office.
Benjamin excelled academically alongside his avid volunteerism, earning his place on the Dean’s list in his first and third years of law school. He took numerous criminal law courses, including Criminal Procedure, Evidence, Advanced Criminal Law, Sentencing, Advocacy, Advanced Evidence, Constitutional Litigation, and Advanced Criminal Trial Advocacy. As a result of Benjamin’s academic achievement, he was awarded the AI Shumiatcher Memorial Prize for Advocacy in 2025.
In his final year of law school, Benjamin competed in the prestigious Gale Cup Moot, which is a simulated appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada. His team’s written submissions were ranked among the Top 5 written arguments (factum) of all competitors across Canada.
